Although the treatment African America’s faced in the early 60s was extremely hard, The Help is an optimistic book that gives hope to marginalized parts of society. Diary of a Wimpy kid: Dog Days

Diary of a Wimpy kid by Jeff Kinney (also known as Diary of a Wimpy Kid: Greg Heffley’s Journal) has not been a New York time best seller for over 41 weeks for no reason. This is an excellent gift idea for any young teenager. Diary of a wimpy kid tells the story of Greg Heffley, who is enjoying (or not) his middle school years. We follow him along as he experiences a summer like no other-plugged to his video game console- Halloween, wrestling and so much more.

This series is a must-read for any young teenager. Fun books such as Diary Of A Wimpy Kid: Dog Days, will surely get them hooked on reading… nothing wrong with that.

Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi has recently made the news due to his admitting to taking methamphetamine (steroid) in 1997. This has caused controversy in the tennis world, because it was seen as a clean sport. Some now thing that Open: An Autobiography by Andre Agassi is putting a taint on tennis. Nevertheless, the book tells the interesting tale of Agassi’s life, winning many tennis opens, marrying Brooke Shields with a couple law suits thrown in. King states that the two previous attempts, although they addressed the same issue, used two different approaches.The new rendition of the issue, the novel Under the Dome, discusses how humans act when seperated from the rest of society. King also states that his previous attempt were possibly more light-hearted but that, Under the Dome goes straight to the point.
Stephen King’s new novel, has reached number 2 on Amazon.com’s best book sellers list, it is right behind The Twilight series and Sara Palin’s autobiography, Going Rogue: An American Life.

The duel that we have all been waiting for between Harry Potter and He who cannot be names, Voldermort should no doubt keep us on the edge of our seats. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens

A Christmas Carol, written by Charles Dickens tells the story of a man who redeems himself after being corrupted by the influences of capitalism.  Three ghosts visit him on Christmas Eve and he is reminded of the important things in life.  A Christmas Carol criticizes the increasing power of industrial capitalism during the 1800’s and attempts (and succeeds in my opinion) to being back the happiness that is sometimes lacking during the holiday seasons.

Charles Dickens immediately received critical acclaim for writing A Christmas Carol and 150 years later it is still popular, the books have never been out of print and are continuously adapted for various Medias, most recently with the Robert Zemeckis animated film with Jim Carrey.  This novella is great for any child to read, it is entertaining and teaches important values in a simple and truthful way, but it is also great for adults, who sometimes need to be reminded that friendship and kindness should never be forgotten, even when paying the bills.
